Step by step Chemex brew guide
What you need:
- Cloth or paper filters
- 480 ml of filtered water
- 30 g of whole bean coffee (click here to see our collection)
1.- Heat your water to 98 C.
2.- Place the filter in the Chemex with multiple folds covering the spout (if using paper filters). Rinse the filter with hot water and preheat the chemex for one minute. Discard water.
3.- Weigh 30 g of coffee and grind the beans in a medium coarse setting.
4.- Add freshly grounded coffee to the center of your Chemex. Shake it gently to settle the grounds evenly.
5.- Tare your scale and start your timer. Let's begin with the bloom phase: pour your hot water making controlled concentric circles from the inside to the outside of the bed. Make sure to fully saturate the grounds until you reach 60 g. Let it bloom for 30 seconds.
6.- At the 0:40 mark start your second pour. Pour hot water in a similar motion as the bloom phase until you reach 290 g. Make sure to reintegrate the coffee and water.
7.- At the 1:45 mark start your last pour until you reach your target of 480 g. Allow the coffee to fully draw down to reveal a flat bed. Total brew time around 3:30
8.- Pour into a mug and enjoy.
